Boxes
Trusted by the Industry
International Premier Cigar Consulting Group
The Box Is Part of the Experience
Before your customer ever lights your cigar, they hold your box. They see the finish, feel the weight, read the label, and open the lid. That moment — the unboxing — sets the expectation for everything that follows. A premium cigar in a mediocre box sends a confusing message. A box that matches the quality of the cigar inside tells your customer they made the right choice.
Cigar Prof partners with established cigar box manufacturers based in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic — the global capital of premium cigar production. Our box partners produce packaging for dozens of recognized cigar brands, operating from free zone industrial parks with the machinery, expertise, and production capacity to serve both boutique private labels and large-scale manufacturers.
We manage the entire box and packaging process on your behalf — from initial concept and design through production, quality inspection, and delivery to your factory.
Our Box Manufacturing Partners
We work with multiple Santiago-based packaging specialists, each bringing distinct strengths to the table.
Partner 1 — Wooden Box Specialist
Our primary wooden box partner operates from a dedicated facility in Santiago, producing handcrafted and machine-finished cigar boxes from premium wood stocks. They specialize in natural wood cigar boxes built from Spanish cedar, mahogany, and other traditional cigar-grade woods — materials chosen for their beauty, grain, aroma, and natural insect-repellent properties. Their capabilities span the full range of box types that the premium cigar market demands: slide-lid cabinet boxes, hinged-lid dress boxes, flat-top boxes, and custom configurations. They produce boxes in all standard cigar counts and can accommodate non-standard dimensions for unique vitolas, sampler sets, and limited-edition presentations. Their finishing options include natural wood stain, lacquer, high-gloss, matte, satin, and custom color finishes. Boxes can be branded with printed labels, embossed logos, laser engraving, hot-stamp foil, and silk-screened artwork.
Partner 2 — Labels, Lined Boxes & Packaging
Our second Santiago-based partner operates from the Free Zone Industrial Park, specializing in lined cigar boxes and label production. They produce high-quality lined boxes in all standard configurations — 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 count — with interior linings designed to protect the cigars and present them beautifully upon opening. This partner also produces printed labels, stickers, and branded packaging elements that integrate with the box design. Their strength is in flexible, mid-volume production — ideal for private label brands and boutique manufacturers who need professional-grade packaging without the minimums required by larger box factories.
This partner is a trusted supplier to several well-known cigar manufacturers in the Dominican Republic. Their location in the Santiago free zone means lower costs, faster coordination with nearby cigar factories, and streamlined logistics.
Box Types & Configurations
Through our manufacturing partners, we produce every major type of cigar box used in the premium market:
Dress Boxes (Standard Boxes) — The most common box type in the premium cigar industry. Constructed from cedar or cedar-veneered plywood, dressed with printed paper labels and brand trimmings. Typically holds 20 or 25 cigars in a single or double layer. The classic presentation for retail cigar lines.
Slide-Lid Cabinet Boxes — A clean, elegant design where the lid slides open along grooves in the side walls. Often made from natural, unfinished or lightly stained wood to showcase the material's beauty. Available in 25 and 50 count configurations. Popular with brands that emphasize rustic authenticity and craftsmanship.
Hinged-Lid Boxes — A premium presentation with a lid attached by a hinge, often secured with a clasp or magnetic closure. Ideal for luxury lines, limited editions, and gift packaging. Available in all standard counts.
Flat-Top Boxes (13-Toppers) — A two-layer configuration with 12 cigars on the bottom and 13 on top, totaling 25. The flat lid allows for maximum label and branding surface area.
8-9-8 Boxes — A round-sided box with three layers of cigars (8 on the bottom, 9 in the middle, 8 on top), totaling 25. One of the most traditional and visually distinctive box formats in the cigar world.
Sampler Boxes — Custom configurations holding 3 to 10 cigars, designed for multi-blend samplers, tasting sets, and gift packaging. Can include dividers, inserts, and individual cigar compartments.
Gift Boxes & Luxury Packaging — High-end presentation packaging for limited editions, corporate gifts, and special occasions. Options include lacquered finishes, velvet or satin linings, foam inserts, custom inlays, and multi-compartment designs that hold cigars alongside accessories like cutters or lighters.
Bundle Packaging — For brands that sell cigars without a wooden box, we coordinate cellophane bundle wrapping, branded tissue paper, and cardboard outer packaging.
Wood Selection & Materials
The choice of wood affects the cigar's preservation, the box's appearance, and the customer's perception of your brand.
Spanish Cedar (Cedrela odorata) — The gold standard for cigar boxes. Prized for its beautiful grain, fine texture, pleasant aroma, natural moisture regulation, and ability to repel tobacco beetles. Used for interior linings, full-box construction, and humidor applications. Spanish cedar is the traditional choice for brands that want the most authentic and functional packaging.
Mahogany — A rich, warm hardwood that takes stain and finish beautifully. Used for luxury and limited-edition boxes where visual impact is the priority.
Cedar-Veneered Plywood — The practical standard for high-volume production. A thin layer of Spanish cedar over a plywood core provides the cedar aroma and beetle resistance at a more accessible price point. The construction used by most major cigar brands for their standard dress boxes.
Other Materials — Depending on the design concept, we can source boxes incorporating metal clasps, leather accents, fabric linings, glass windows, and composite materials for specialized presentations.
